Fort Smith Public Schools Psychology Teacher Receives National Recognition

Fort Smith, Arkansas - April 17, 2024. Fort Smith Public Schools and Northside High School psychology teacher Martin Hyatt is one of two recipients in the country of the national 2024 American Psychology Association Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools (TOPSS) Charles T. Blair-Broeker Excellence in Teaching Award.

“I am certainly proud to be selected as a recipient of a “Charlie” award. Anyone who met Charlie knew almost immediately that he was a guy whom others needed to model, which is why it’s certainly an honor to be linked to such an incredible psychology teacher. Maybe most importantly, being recognized by TOPSS gives serious credibility to the old adage—hard work works. While I may not have any extra special skills as a teacher, I work hard to build relationships and am willing to go the extra mile for other students and fellow teachers,” said Mr. Hyatt.

The APA TOPSS Charles T. Blair-Broeker Excellence in Teaching Awards are given to outstanding high school psychology teachers recognized for exemplary teaching, advancing the science of psychology, and their commitment to academic and professional excellence.

“Mr. Hyatt is the epitome of a teacher! He goes above and beyond to build relationships with all of his students. He loves Northside High School and is very deserving of this award!” said Chris Carter, Northside High School Principal.
