Domonique Alexander, Director of Special Education, updated the board on the progress in Special Education Academic Achievement. She highlighted a statewide initiative focused on inclusive learning, full access, and better outcomes. The Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Department is working to ensure that students with disabilities have access to the general education classroom to the maximum extent possible. Additionally, FSPS is working to ensure that special education teachers receive professional development to provide the best education possible and actively participate in professional learning communities.

Chief Hollenbeck and Lt Huber reported on the progress made with the Arkansas School Safety Grant. FSPS received $596,150.00, which was allocated towards enhancing door locks, improving school building access control, installing fencing, and upgrading emergency communications. The district is working towards finalizing the door locks to ensure all doors can be easily locked with an improved mechanism. The Arkansas School Safety Grant does not cover previously discussed weapon detection systems, and the district is seeking other grants to fund those systems.
