Flu Prevention Guidelines Good All-Around Practice
The CDC states that flu viruses are thought to spread from person to person through droplets made when people with the flu cough, sneeze, or talk. Sometimes a person might get the flu from touching a surface with the flu virus on it and then touching their mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. Many other viruses spread in the same way. People who have the flu can be contagious from 1 day before they develop symptoms up to 5-7 days after becoming sick.
If your child gets sick with flu-like illness, they should stay home from school until they are FEVER FREE for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of fever reducing medications (such as Tylenol or ibuprofen).
Preventive actions:
• Avoid contact with sick people.
• If you become sick, stay home.
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Throw the used tissue in the trash and wash your hands.
• Wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds with soap and water.
• Avoid touching your mouth, nose, and eyes. Germs spread this way.
• Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs that cause respiratory illnesses like flu.
