Fort Smith Public Schools Releases Continuous Improvement Plan
Fort Smith, AR (January 23, 2023). During the FSPS School Board of Education meeting, the school board adopted the organization’s Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP). The district developed the CIP with input from the staff and the public in the Fall 2022. The adopted CIP includes an update to the organization’s motto, mission, values, and vision statement that frames four strategic goals that the district will implement over the next year:
-
Students will master grade-level reading targets by the beginning of third grade. For their remaining school career, they will achieve reading targets at/or above grade level.
-
Students will perform at/or above grade level in math.
-
Schools and administrative buildings will be safe, welcoming environments where authentic, productive relationships are valued.
-
Our system guarantees relevant classes for every secondary student and maximizes student choice.
The district will implement the CIP in tandem with the organization’s curriculum audit with the aim of improving daily organizational processes, policies, and practices in a systemized and comprehensive manner.
The CIP replaces the organization’s Vision 2023 plan, which concluded in December 2022. FSPS Superintendent, Dr. Terry Morawski noted that while the Vision 2023 plan focused primarily on facility and technological improvements, the new CIP focuses more on improving internal processes and increasing academic success. “Recent score cards reminded us that we needed a systematic, strategic approach that we could revisit and measure against. We heard from staff that they were pleased with this new direction. Together, we are eager to develop the CIP tactics that will help the district reach the CIP goals and the key recommendations in the curriculum audit. The new plan emphasizes foundational skills of reading and math as well as maximizes student choice. The unveiling of the plan during “National School Choice Week” is timely because it helps us spotlight the reason FSPS should be the choice for all students in the region.”
