Northside Students Feature Local Businesses on City of Fort Smith Social Media
The City of Fort Smith, in partnership with Northside High School and Fort Smith Public Schools, will be featuring local area businesses on its social media platforms. The businesses featured were selected by Northside High School juniors in Ms. Leigh Ann Hasley’s Photography Class.
“We are excited to be partnering with Northside and FSPS for another great project that showcases Fort Smith. This time, the students turned their attention to local business. Given our businesses are emerging from the impacts of COVID, we couldn't be happier to showcase the students’ talents, which focus on small business,” said Shari Cooper, the City’s Public Relations & Communications Manager.
The City of Fort Smith will begin featuring these local businesses on Wednesday, May 5 on its social media and will continue through the summer.
“The students initiated this idea to feature local businesses. Each business they feature will provide background information about the owner and business. It was a classroom effort to accomplish this project and the students gleaned much from business owners. I am very excited and proud for the residents of Fort Smith to see their work!” said Leigh Ann Hasley.
“I suggested we spotlight businesses because it has been a tough year with COVID and I wanted to support their efforts. It gave me an opportunity to photograph real people living and working in our city,” said Kenzie Kilgore, Northside junior photography student.
“This partnership has created opportunities for students to explore their creativity in a way that not only sharpens their photography skills, but also allows them to interact with their community in different ways,” said Christina Williams, Coordinator of Public Information, Fort Smith Public Schools.
Fort Smith residents are encouraged to visit the City’s Facebook and Instagram pages: Facebook (@FtSmithAR) and Instagram (@FortSmithAR) to view, like, and share the students’ photos to support the student photographers and the small businesses featured by the students.
