Today the Arkansas State Board of Education approved a waiver request from the Fort Smith Public Schools for May 28, 29, and 30, 2019 due to the historic and unprecedented flooding that has afflicted our area and required cancellation of the last three days of school for safety reasons. Because of this action by the state board, make-up days for May 28, 29, and 30, 2019 will not have to be scheduled.
"We are very grateful for this action by the state board. I also want to thank Sebastian County Judge David Hudson, Fort Smith Mayor George McGill, Fort Smith Council of PTAs President LeeAndra White, and Personnel and Policy Committee President Ryan Gray and Secretary Jennifer Lyon for their letters in support of our Board's request for this waiver," Superintendent Doug Brubaker said.
