The Fort Smith Adult Education Center provides students with access to the Distance Education Program.  The Distance Education Program is independent and self-paced.  Prior to enrollment into the Distance Education Program, students must obtain six (6) hours of face-to-face time within the Center.  These hours can include intake, assessment (TABE or TABE Class E), and class time.

Prior to enrollment in the Distance Education Program, students must have access to a computer, tablet, or cellphone with internet.  Students must have access to a personal email, which they will check regularly to maintain communication with the Distance Education Program Instructor.

Students are referred to the Distance Education Program by instructors, the counselor, or the director.  After verification that students have met the six (6) hours, students will complete the Arkansas Distance Education Intake Survey.  The Distance Education Instructor requires a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours to enroll the student into the program prior to a student orientation.  Students will attend a short orientation, either an approximately five (5) minute face-to-face meeting or via email, to obtain their Distance Education Program website account information.

Students are required to complete a minimum of twelve (12) hours of studying on their assigned program(s) each month.  students are also required to communicate with the Distance Education Instructor once weekly, either face-to-face or through email.  Upon completion of 30 hours studying for GAE students, 40 hours studying for ABE students or 60 hours studying for ESL students, your Distance Education Program Instructor will inform you that it is time to return to the Fort Smith Adult Education Center and post test.  It is the student's responsibility to complete the post test within fourteen (14) calendar days.  Assessment hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00am-3:00pm and 4:00pm-8:00pm.  If a student is unable to post test within the fourteen (14) calendar days, they must make arrangements with the Distance Education Program Instructor.

Admittance to the Distance Education Program is at the discretion of the Fort Smith Adult Education Center Director and the Distance Education Program Instructor.
