Chief Eric Huber
With an impressive 31 years of law enforcement experience, Chief Huber’s career reflects a path in law enforcement marked by dedication and leadership. Since joining the Fort Smith Public Schools Police Department in 2004, he has helped shape several programs and fortify numerous safety measures within the district.
His passion for his work is evident in his ongoing professional development. He holds a degree in Criminal Justice and is continuing his education through Columbia Southern University, working towards further advancing his knowledge in Criminal Justice Administration. This education builds upon his studies at Westark Community College and the University of Arkansas Fort Smith. His dedication to continuous learning is reflected in a wide array of certifications, including Certified Law Enforcement Instructor, Certified Radar Instructor, Certified SRO Trauma Medic, Certified IED Awareness, Bomb Threat & Search Procedures, Certified Child Abduction Response Team (CART) member, Certified Advanced A.L.I.C.E. Instructor, and Certified Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Instructor.
Chief Huber's stellar career has been punctuated by numerous accolades and awards, underscoring his exceptional contributions to law enforcement. Notable honors include the American Police Hall of Fame Merit Award for Excellent Arrest, the American Police Hall of Fame Life Saving Award, the Barling Police Department Officer of the Year, and the Arkansas PTA Children's Champion Award, among others.
Beyond individual recognition, Chief Huber has also actively contributed to various professional organizations, serving as the Arkansas Safe Schools Association President from July 2015 to July 2017 and maintaining a continuous role as a board member since 2009. Additionally, his involvement with the University of Arkansas Criminal Justice Institute (CJI) School Resource Officer Program Task Force in 2009 exemplifies his commitment to advancing the field and ensuring the highest safety standards within educational institutions.
