• Professional Learning Communities (PLC)

    Fort Smith Public Schools utilizes the Professional Learning Communities (PLC) program.  The PLC program helps school staff become better educators with the goal of improving student performance. For certified staff, PLC prioritizes:

    • ongoing learning;
    • collective responsibility;
    • collaborative culture;
    • shared mission and vision;
    • reflective practices; and
    • data-informed decision-making.

    Since it's adoption from the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education, several schools have achieved Model PLC School certification. The Model PLC schools include:

    1. Ballman Elementary
    2. Carnall Elementary
    3. Spradling Elementary
    4. Darby Middle School
    5. Northside High School

    Model PLC Schools demonstrate the following:

    • commitment to PLC concepts that have been implemented for at least three years;
    • clear evidence of improved student learning;
    • the culture, practices, and structures of the schools and
    • continued progress in meeting the 'PLC at Work' criteria.
